Well, the weather cooperated yesterday for the 48th Annual Sharon Five Mile Road Race. This race kicks off the Sharon Fourth of July festivities. This year, the weather cooperated. The rain held off and it wasn't quite so muggy as to be uncomfortable. There was a comfortable breeze at Lake Massapoag, the starting point for the five mile road race.
Runners started arriving by 8 a.m. to register, stretch and warm up. There were 107 registered runners. Just slightly more than half were from Sharon MA. The others were from towns around Massachusetts and a handful of runners from Rhode Island.
Daniel Crouteau, from Fall River, was the overall first place finisher with a time of 29:16. Sean Griffin from Canton MA, finished at 29:17. Brad Highcove of Warwick RI finished third at 33:43 and Walt Massefski of Sharon finished fourth with a time of 33:52. Canton's Andrea Widberg was the first place female runner with a time of 35:39.
Youngest runner, Aviel Taube, came in first in the 14 and under age group with a time of 59:01, finishing just ahead of his mother, Shlomit Taube. For all the stats on the runners in this race, you can check out the Rankings.
